Ruffin Inn offers add-on guided nature walks for dogs while they board or visit daycare. Trained staff take small groups of compatible dogs on leash walks through nearby trails for 30-45 minutes. It's an enrichment upgrade on top of the regular play yard schedule, available year-round weather permitting.
What's included
- Small groups. Two to four compatible dogs per walk so handlers can keep things calm and controlled.
- 30 to 45 minutes. Long enough for real exercise, short enough to fit between yard sessions or meals.
- Trail variety. We rotate through nearby quiet trails and grassy off-road routes to keep walks interesting.
- Add-on to any stay. Layer a walk onto a boarding stay or a daycare day. Schedule at drop-off.

Frequently asked
How much do nature walks cost?
Nature walks are an add-on to a boarding or daycare stay. Pricing varies by length and group size — ask at the front desk or check our rates page.
Can my dog do nature walks if they're reactive on leash?
Mildly reactive dogs may be able to walk with a smaller group or solo. We assess every dog before adding them to a walk.
Do you walk in winter?
Yes, weather permitting. We skip walks during dangerous cold, ice, or storms.
Where do the walks go?
Quiet trails and grassy routes near the facility. We rotate routes for variety and avoid busy roads.
Is it safe? What if my dog gets loose?
Every walker uses a sturdy six-foot leash and a flat collar or harness. We never use retractable leashes on walks.
Can my dog do a walk and daycare on the same day?
Yes — many families layer a walk on top of a daycare day for extra enrichment.
What gets brought on the walk?
Water, poop bags, and treats. Your dog comes back in time for their normal feeding and rest schedule.
